News | S.E.Michigan Oratory Contest follow-up S.E.Michigan Oratory Contest follow-up: see the flyer . https://www.thenewsherald.com/2026/04/16/students-recognized-for-pro-life-speeches/ Seven pro-life high school students from the Downriver area competed in the annual Pro-Life Oratory Contest. They each gave their originally researched speeches to 53 observers at New Hope Assembly of God Church in Taylor. The life affirming speeches were on the topics of abortion, euthanasia and embryonic stem cell research. Three contestants were from St. Frances Cabrini High School, and one from Gabriel Richard High School. Three students from New Hope Assembly Church were two from Summit Academy North and one from Taylor High School. Five judges represented the business community, churches and State Representative Rylee Linting (R, District 27). The first prize winner, Na’Kayla Major, a senior at Summit Academy North, received the cash prize of $200. She advances to the state contest in Lansing on April 18 with her speech on Euthanasia. She explained that euthanasia is the intentional ending of a person’s life. It is “ethically, logically, and spiritually wrong because it weakens the value of human life, creates dangerous consequences for society, and ignores the deeper dignity that every life carries.” Her seven minute speech concluded that “Our responsibility as a society is not to eliminate people who suffer. It is to support them.” She has been invited to speak at the Downriver Focus on Life dinner in October. The second place prize of $150 was awarded to Anthony Hicks, a Junior at Taylor High School. He began and ended his speech with a Rap poem, and then explained what abortion is, examined why some mothers think it is a solution, offered life affirming options and quoted Bible verses to affirm the value of God’s gift of Life: The Other Choice. Ethan Cunningham, a senior at Gabriel Richard High School, won the third place prize of $125 for his speech titled “The Conquest Against Death.” His speech pointed out that abortion is evil and a cruel and unusual punishment. He shared a Latin quote meaning “while there is life, there is hope.” And there is no hope in abortion. Zella Muroski, a Sophomore at St. Frances Cabrini High School received Honorable Mention. Other contestants were Mateo Barajas and Natalie Griffith (both from Cabrini), and Dominic Gonzales from Summit Academy North. The contest was jointly sponsored by five affiliates of Right to Life of Michigan from Dearborn area, Monroe County, Central Wayne County, Southern Downriver and Upper Downriver. For more information, see RTL.org. Attached photo by David Ferrell; back row: Zella Muroski, Ethan Cunningham, Anthony Hicks, Dominic Gonzales; front row: Rep. • News | Assisted Suicide MI Bills proposed

News | Assisted Suicide MI Bills proposed Michigan Assisted Suicide Bills update... A set of House bills, HB 5825-5828, were introduced to legalize assisted suicide in Michigan. These bills are identical to the set of bills introduced last term in the Senate. The Senate bills did not receive a hearing, but in the interim between the introduction of the Senate bills in 2023 and now, three states have legalized assisted suicide – New York, Illinois, and Delaware. Compassion and Choices, the leading national organization promoting assisted suicide, is active in our state attempting to sway public opinion to accept assisted suicide under the guise of “medical aid in dying” or “death with dignity.” Providing lethal drugs to patients for the purpose of self-inflected death is neither compassionate nor dignified. We have launched a Voter Voice campaign to assist you in calling or emailing your state legislators to reject these bills and any attempt to legalize assisted suicide in our state. We encourage you to share this with all of your members and volunteers and please put in calls and emails this week. We want to send a loud and clear message to our elected officials that Michigan is a state that protects and provides for vulnerable patients; we don’t abandon the sick, elderly and disabled to assisted suicide. Please used this link to quickly and easily contact your State Representative and Senator: https://www.votervoice.net/MiRTL/Campaigns/136615/Respond You may have seen FOX News cover these bills. Also, Amber issued a statement on the bills this morning – you can read it and share it: https://rtl.org/assisted-suicide-bills-danger-to-vulnerable-citizens/ If you have any questions or need additional information, please don’t hesitate to contact the legislative office at 517-487-3376 . • News: "My Body" (ProLife perspective) | UD-MI RTL

News: "My Body" (ProLife perspective) | UD-MI RTL UDMI-RTL "My Body" Life perspective Image source: Galaxy.AI (based upon this prayer) "My Body" from "Pro-Life Prayers" "This is My Body, given up for you." Lord Jesus, we hear Your words each day at Mass. You have used these words to teach us the meaning of Your love for us, a love that brought You to the cross to give Your life so we might live. You use these words also to teach us the meaning of our love for one another, a love which leads us to give ourselves away that others might live. "This is my body." Lord, we also hear these words used by those who think they can take life, just because that life is growing within their body. We hear these words distorted by those who support abortion. Grant that all Your people may learn that human fulfillment is never found by pushing someone else out of the way, but only and always by pushing ourselves out of the way. May all Your people live their lives according to Your most sacred words, "This is my body, given up for you!" • News: Focus On Life Dinner 2024

News: Focus On Life Dinner 2024 | UD-MI RTL UDMI-RTL Focus On Life Dinner 2024 Focus on Life Dinner 2024 A record breaking crowd of 300 attended the annual fundraising dinner for Right to Life of Michigan. The three Downriver affiliates (Southern Downriver, Upper Downriver and Central Wayne County) co-sponsored the event held September 18 at The Grecian Center in Southgate. It was attended by Representative James DeSana from the 29th House District and Rylee Linting, candidate for the 27th House District. She is endorsed by the Right to Life of Michigan PAC. Knights of Columbus were represented from at least six councils. High School Oratory contestant Ethan Cunningham from Gabriel Richard High School shared his winning speech on the dangers of Euthanasia. The keynote address by author, EWTN personality and Holy Land tour guide Steve Ray was a wake up call to attendees as the Christian remnant in a post Christian world. He pointed out parallels to early Christianity, and that like those early Christians, we have an opportunity and responsibility to share the lessons of Jesus, “swimming upstream” in deeds as well as words. We are created by God as body and soul and are made for eternity. Early Christians rescued and raised abandoned newborns, much like our work with Right to Life of Michigan does. We change the world one person at a time. The evening ended with a video preview of TV and social media commercials to persuade mothers that abortion is not their only choice. Life is the Other Choice. To support outreach, pregnancy resource centers, and print pro-life election materials, donations of $27,190 were collected including $10,000 from Southern Downriver Right to Life. image source: Debbie Bloomfield - Table Setting For more images see: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNyKzQo9aD-UM-zfyYWLHdprB0eXRVwYUwnlGaD28u6Q-nNlIm2apMFOWFxyPdgFA?key=OUJZeEFMb09kS3FFYWVuM0ZXVkRCVTVtRTZ5REFn more on FOCUS ON LIFE DINNER 2024 - see: .../udmi-rtl/news-nl-oct-2024

News: 2025 UDMI-RTL Life-Walk [post Walk updates] | UD-MI RTL LIFE WALK 2025 - post Walk News [images below] We did not have as many folks as last years LW2024 [see those 2024 images: LW2024 album - https://photos.app.goo.gl/jN4f4hNto2MhCaEi7 ] likely big part of that was threat of Rain all morning, but big THANK YOU to those came from Brownstown (but representing Allen Park Knights-Of-Columbus Council) and New Boston. Be sure keep eye on UDMI-RTL/NEWS (late Apr. 2026 for June 2026 plans) for LW2026 as we hope for better weather and return to 2024 level turnout. Remember, next year, 2026, is an Election year, MidTerms2026 will be very important for MI. Really need MAJOR SHOW OF FORCE June 2026. Need all Local, County, State, Federal, Candidates, showing not just for LW2026 but attend Oratory Contest which will be held month or 2 before (again, stay glued to UDMI-RTL.org/NEWS page or be sure to JOIN UDMI-RTL to get N/L updates). "I am LARGE, I contain multitudes!"
