News | Michigan Life Essay Scholarship Winner 2026 Michigan Life Essay Scholorship Winner for 2026 announced... I’m excited to share that we have selected a winner for this year’s Senior Scholarship Essay! Please join me in congratulating Claire Meulenberg from Grand Rapids Right to Life. Claire is a student at Northpointe Christian High School and plans to attend Samford University in Alabama, where she will pursue a degree in political science. In her essay, Claire reflected on her decision to walk alongside a friend experiencing an unexpected pregnancy. Through offering consistent support to both her friend and her friend’s baby, Claire demonstrated that being pro-life extends beyond belief—it calls for compassion, action, and a willingness to stand with others during challenging moments. Congratulations, Claire, on this well-deserved recognition! Best regards, Whittney Dominguez Director of Education, MiGen Leads Coordinator Right to Life of Michigan Winning piece : Life Worth Fighting For - by Claire Meulenberg I was raised among the values of the pro-life movement and the belief that every human life has inherent worth. Conversations about abortion were regular in my home, my church, and within my Christian community. My family and I regularly donated to Alpha Women’s Center, and my mom works faithfully at our local Pregnancy Resource Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan. So consequently, the idea of unplanned pregnancy was not an abstract concept in our household, but a topic discussed with compassion and urgency. I spent countless hours alongside my mom, volunteering and supporting the mission these centers fought for. From a young age, I believed I understood the weight of the pro-life movement and confidently called myself pro-life. However, it was not until later that I truly grasped the depth and reality of what I had been advocating for. That understanding came during my junior year of high school, when one of my closest friends discovered she was pregnant at seventeen years old. In our small, private Christian school, the news spread quickly. Opinions echoed through the hallways, and one question seemed to follow her everywhere: Would she keep the baby? Hearing that question forced me to confront the reality of the cause I had supported my entire life. I remember thinking, Of course she will keep the baby. I knew her strength, her resilience, and her heart. Yet in that moment, I realized that being pro-life was no longer about a belief I inherited, rather, it was about actively standing beside my close friend during the most vulnerable season of her life. I truly grasped what I was advocating for. Walking alongside my friend during her unplanned pregnancy changed me. I learned what it meant to advocate not just with words, but with presence, empathy, and unwavering support. I watched her courage unfold as a young mom who faced uncertainty, fear, and judgment, and I felt a deeper responsibility to defend both her and her child. Nine months later, she gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. Seeing him, I finally understood who I had been advocating for all along. He is a living reminder that every life is made in the image of God, regardless of the circumstances. What mattered most was not how he entered this world, but how deeply he is loved. This experience transformed my view on what it means to be pro-life. It strengthened my compassion and daily it shapes how I approach my leadership in this movement. It taught me that true pro-life work extends beyond simply believing in the cause, but it requires action and a willingness to walk alongside others with grace. As I look toward my future goals, I plan on continuing to advocate for women, like my friend. I will be attending Samford University in order to pursue a degree in Political Science. It's through this career path that I will be able to advocate for more moms and unborn children on the national level. I aspire to obtain my friend’s strength and courage as I walk on this journey. ### We Hear Their Cries (ProLife Anthem music video) VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: To help stretch our Donors' donation dollars we need Volunteers for help with upcoming other 2026 events (including Parade preperation). "My Body" [Pro-Life perspecive] Prayer | UD-MI RTL UDMI-RTL "My Body" Life perspective Image source: Galaxy.AI (based upon this prayer) "My Body" from "Pro-Life Prayers" "This is My Body, given up for you." Lord Jesus, we hear Your words each day at Mass. You have used these words to teach us the meaning of Your love for us, a love that brought You to the cross to give Your life so we might live. You use these words also to teach us the meaning of our love for one another, a love which leads us to give ourselves away that others might live. "This is my body." Lord, we also hear these words used by those who think they can take life, just because that life is growing within their body. We hear these words distorted by those who support abortion. Grant that all Your people may learn that human fulfillment is never found by pushing someone else out of the way, but only and always by pushing ourselves out of the way. May all Your people live their lives according to Your most sacred words, "This is my body, given up for you!" Fight Assisted Suicide Legalizing assisted suicide has been introduced into the Michigan House of Representatives. We need to preemptively stop it. Find out more information here: https://rtl.org/assisted-suicide-bills-danger-to-vulnerable-citizens/ Election Aug 4 is the primary in Michigan. Due to a recent change in the law, every voter has the right to be on the permanent absentee voter list. Simply contact your city or township clerk. Your ballot will be mailed to you. You will always know when there will be an election and it gives you time to research and vote. You may either drop it off at the clerk's office before the election or take it to early or election day voting. You may also see what is on your ballot in advance at: https://www.vote.org/ballot-information/ . To see candidates endorsed by Right to Life of Michigan, go to rtl.org/vote . Non-presidential elections tend to have lower turn out of pro-life voters. That is what happened when Proposal 3 passed which put legal abortion for any reason at any time in the Michigan Constitution. This year we have the opportunity to elect not only the Governor, Secretary of State and Attorney General, but also a United States Senator and Congressman as well as a Michigan Senator and District Representative as well as some local offices. It is an opportunity to put conservative, pro-life majorities in office. Volunteers are needed to make "Get Out the Vote" calls or go to selected doors to inform like minded citizens of who the pro-life candidates are. The new system identifies people who have pro-life values and will not show your phone number. Please volunteer for one hour. Reply before June 15 so that you can participate in the online training. Your participation is a matter of Life or Death.
